I have realised that this blog is somewhat neglected, mainly thanks to my constantly writing and uploading stuff to isthismusic.com and jockrock.org.
And yet, I probably don’t foist my own personal tastes on my occasional readers nearly often enough. What’s the point of having literally (a) hundred(s) of people following your every word if you don’t try and shape their personal tastes and bring some good sounds into musical lives perhaps bereft of decent music (i.e. stuff I like).
So, I’ll be updating this as often as is humanely possible – though don’t expect as lengthy an intro every time. However, musical content won’t be a problem, and since it’ll just be a link to three minutes of glorious pop, rock or other genre of MY choice, I may actually keep it up for more than a week.
Whether it’ll be daily (nice idea), weekly (no more infrequent than that I’d hope) and whether it’s an album, Scottish or worldwide, Youtube vid or the odd Soundcloud link remains to be seen.
It’s inspired in a sense by the SAY awards which saw Aidan Moffat and Bill Wells’ album Everything’s Getting Older rightly acclaimed as the ‘Best of 2011’. I was going to post the video for ‘The Copper Top‘ but as the missus pointed out, while the song and the video are both magnificent, they don’t really tie together. Plus, everyone’s seen that anyway which kind of defeats the purpose.
So instead, something else from Chemikal Underground’s back catalogue. It’s very likely that I ripped this to the computer from a MiniDV when I was the label’s webmaster in the early (ahem) noughties. It’s pretty grainy, but the music stands out loud and proud – as will, I hope, everything I post over the coming days / weeks / months…
